Setting up Exchange in Outlook for Mac

In this article, you’ll learn how to set up a new Microsoft Exchange 2019 account in Outlook 2019 or Outlook 2016 on your Apple Mac.

Important note: The version of Outlook for Mac supplied with Microsoft 365 does not yet support the setup of Microsoft Exchange 2019 accounts. You should therefore use a different version of Outlook for Mac.

Prerequisites:

• You have a Microsoft Exchange 2019 account.
• You have created an email address in your Microsoft Exchange 2019 account.
• An Autodiscover record has been created in your domain’s DNS settings.

Outlook 2019:

• Please note that macOS 13.1 does not support on-premises Exchange with Outlook 2019. On-premises Exchange refers here to Exchange 2019, which is hosted on centron rather than on Microsoft Exchange Online.
• A workaround is required to use Exchange 2019 with Outlook 2019. First, install Outlook 2019 on your Mac, then restore the legacy version of Outlook.

Setting up an account in Outlook 2019:

1. Launch Outlook 2019 for Mac.
2. Go to ‘Tools’ > ‘Accounts’.
3. Select ‘Add email account’.
4. Enter your Microsoft Exchange 2019 email address and select ‘Exchange’.
5. Enter your Exchange account details, including the server address “exchange2019.centron.de”, and complete the setup.
6. Authorise Autodiscover for the server “autodiscover.1and1.info” if prompted.

Outlook 2016:

• Install Outlook 2016 on your Mac.
• Launch Outlook 2016 and go to ‘Tools’ > ‘Accounts’.
• Add your Microsoft Exchange 2019 account as described above.

If you encounter any problems during set-up, please check the Autodiscover entry in your domain’s DNS settings and bear in mind that DNS changes take time to propagate.
