Migrating emails and folders from an email account with another provider to centron

To migrate your email accounts from another provider to centron and use Microsoft Exchange 2019, follow these steps:

  1. Create a backup:
    • Back up the data in your existing Microsoft Exchange mailboxes. You can find instructions in the articles “Backing up and restoring an email mailbox with Outlook” and “Creating an Outlook backup”.
  2. Transfer your domain:
    • Option 1: Transfer your domain to centron. Prepare the domain with your current provider as described in the article “Preparing to transfer a domain from another provider”. You can find the transfer instructions for existing or new centron customers in the relevant articles.
    • Option 2: If you wish to keep your domain with another provider, set up an external domain with centron. You can find detailed instructions on this in the article ‘Setting up an external domain with centron’.
  3. Validation of external domains:
    • To use an external domain for Microsoft Exchange 2019 accounts, you must validate it. This can be done either by creating a TXT record with your domain provider or by setting up the external domain with centron as your DNS provider.
  4. Setting up email addresses for a Microsoft Exchange 2019 account:
    • Create the desired email addresses in your Microsoft Exchange 2019 contract with centron. You can find instructions in the article ‘Setting up Microsoft Exchange 2019’.
  5. Migrate emails using the centron Email Migration service powered by audriga:
    • Use the centron Email Migration tool to migrate data from your previous email provider’s accounts to your new Microsoft Exchange 2019 accounts. Do not carry out the migration until the domain migration is complete or the external domain has been set up.
  6. Remove email accounts from your previous provider in the apps and programmes you use:
    • Remove the old email accounts from the apps and programmes you use.
  7. Set up your Microsoft Exchange 2019 account in apps or applications:
    • Delete the old account settings and set up new accounts for your Microsoft Exchange 2019 mailbox. You can find instructions for various apps and programmes under ‘Microsoft Exchange 2019’.
  8. Downloading the email programmes:
    • Instructions on how to download Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft Exchange 2019 can be found in the article “Download Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft Exchange 2019”.
  9. Removing email accounts from your previous provider or local email server:
    • Once the migration is complete, remove the email accounts from your previous provider or your local email server.

Also, make sure you update the Autodiscover record with your original domain provider, particularly if you are using an external domain with your domain provider’s name servers.
