Releasing an MS 365 domain following cancellation

If you have cancelled Microsoft 365, which was provided by centron, and now wish to use your domain with other email services such as Mail Business or Microsoft 365 from a third-party provider, you will need to release the domain. This article explains how to do this.

Prerequisites

Please note

When using Microsoft 365, your domain is linked to Microsoft. If you do not remove this link, you will not be able to use this domain with another Microsoft 365 provider. Use of Mail Business or Mail Basic will also be blocked initially. You must delete both the users at centron and the aliases at Microsoft.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Log in to your centron account.

  2. Click ‘Menu > Microsoft 365’ in the title bar. If you also use other centron Office products, click ‘Menu > Office’.

  3. Select the contract associated with your Microsoft 365 domain (if necessary).

  4. Click on the cog icon in the ‘Actions’ column.

If you wish to delete the user, proceed to the next step. If you wish to keep the user for another purpose, skip to step 7.

  1. Select ‘Delete user’ from the drop-down menu. A message window will open.

  2. If you are sure you want to delete the user, click ‘Delete user’. This will also delete the user from Microsoft 365 and the data stored in the cloud. If you wish to continue using the user in Microsoft 365 with a different email address:

  3. Select ‘Edit user’ from the drop-down menu.

  4. Click on the ‘Username’ row.

  5. Click on ‘Select another domain’.

  6. Select the domain ending in ‘.onmicrosoft’: this is a Microsoft system domain that was created automatically during set-up.

  7. Log in to Microsoft 365 and follow the instructions in this Microsoft Help article to delete the shared alias.

Once you have made all the necessary adjustments, you can use your Office 365 package with another provider under your usual domain or with Mail Business.
