Android: Installing Outlook & Setting Up an Email Account

In this article, you’ll learn how to set up the Microsoft 365 Outlook app on your Android device to send and receive emails.

Downloading and installing Microsoft Outlook

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.

  2. Install Microsoft Outlook for Android.

Initial setup

  1. Launch the Outlook app on your Android device.

  2. Enter your Microsoft 365 email address and password.

  3. Complete your entries by clicking ‘Log in’. The ‘Add another account’ screen will appear.

  4. Optional: Add another account (email address). You can do this at any time later. To find out how, see the next section, ‘Other email addresses’.

  5. Confirm the prompt by selecting ‘Maybe later’. The Outlook app’s inbox will open.

Other email addresses

In the previous section, ‘Initial setup’, you set up the Outlook app for the first time using your Microsoft 365 email address. To access additional email addresses via the Outlook app, follow the steps below.

Prerequisite

  • You are already signed in to the Outlook app with your Microsoft 365 account.
  1. Open the Outlook app on your Android device. The Inbox will appear.

  2. Open the menu by tapping your account icon in the top left-hand corner. This is either a user picture or the first letter of your name.

  3. Tap the cog icon for Settings in the bottom-left corner of the menu bar.

  4. In the ‘Email accounts’ section, select the ‘Add email account’ link. > ‘Add email account’.

  5. Enter the new email address and complete the process by selecting ‘Add account’. Outlook will now automatically attempt to identify the correct email provider and access type.

  6. Click on the ‘Set up account manually’ link if automatic set-up was not possible.

  7. Choose between an IMAP or POP3 account. Your email provider will supply you with the IMAP/POP3 and SMTP details. For centron email addresses, this information is summarised here.

  8. Complete your entries by clicking ‘Log in’.
