This glossary defines the key concepts behind Microsoft Office 365 to help you better understand how it works and to understand what the documentation is referring to when it uses certain terms.

Office 365

A subscription-based service from Microsoft that provides access to a range of Office applications and other productivity tools.

Microsoft 365

An enhanced version of Office 365 that includes additional services such as enhanced security features and device management.

OneDrive

A cloud storage service from Microsoft that is integrated into Office 365 and enables users to store, share and synchronise files.

SharePoint

A platform for collaboration and document management that makes it easier to share documents and information.

Teams

A communication platform that integrates chat, video conferencing and team collaboration into a single application.

Outlook

An email client that also offers calendar, contacts and task management functions.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint

The classic Office applications for word processing, spreadsheets and creating presentations.

Exchange Online

A hosted email service that forms part of Office 365 and offers features such as email, calendar and contacts.

Microsoft Teams Chat

A feature in Microsoft Teams that enables fast, real-time communication and the Exchange of information.

Power BI

A business intelligence tool that is integrated into Office 365 and offers comprehensive data analysis and reporting capabilities.

Azure Active Directory

An identity and access management service used for user authentication and authorisation in Office 365.

Admin Centre

A web-based interface for managing Office 365 services, user accounts and settings.

Compliance Centre

A tool within Office 365 that helps to ensure compliance with standards and monitor data management policies.

OneNote

A digital notebook application that enables you to collect and organise notes, images and information.

Yammer

A social network for businesses that promotes communication and collaboration within an organisation.
