General SMTP/IMAP clients

This article provides all the information you need to set up your email address with your preferred SMTP/IMAP client.

Step 1 – Find the mail server address

To establish an encrypted connection to your mail server, you will need the server’s hostname.

You will receive the name of your new server by email. It will normally be different from the mail server shown in the screenshots.

How to find the correct hostname

However, you can also find out the required hostname yourself:

  1. Enter mail.yourdomain.co.uk into your browser. Replace yourdomain.co.uk with the name of your domain.
  2. You will be redirected to the webmail login page.
  3. Make a note of the address shown in the address bar

Please use the following hostname as your incoming and outgoing mail server: mcno-bbg-XX.internet1.de

Important: Replace the XX with the number displayed in your web browser. So, for mcno-bbg-04.internet1.de, use 04: mcno-bbg-04.internet1.de

Step 2 – Username and password

Please use your full email address (e.g. hallo@centronhosting.de) as your username, along with the corresponding password. Authentication is carried out using your username and password.

Step 3 – Specify ports

Select your encrypted ports. Please note that the ports depend on the type of account you have. IMAP is usually used by default.
