With the centron S3 Object Storage, centron offers an S3-compatible object storage solution that enables you to store and serve large volumes of data. This storage solution can be set up in a matter of seconds and used immediately without any configuration. Data transmission is automatically secured using HTTPS, and the available storage capacity scales seamlessly.

centron and S3 Object Storage buckets are ideal for storing static, unstructured data such as audio, video and images, as well as large volumes of text. Buckets are an implementation of object storage. They are suitable for databases, for applications written in server-side languages, and for business-critical applications using local storage or block storage.

If you use centron S3 Object Storage to deliver static or dynamic content for your website, you can also use a CDN (Content Delivery Network) as an additional layer. CDNs reduce page loading times and improve performance by caching your assets on geographically distributed servers. Separate charges may apply for additional features and related services.

Unique URLs: A subscription to centron S3 Object Storage allows you to create multiple buckets as logical units for segmenting content. Each bucket has its own unique URL.

High availability: centron S3 Object Storage is built using Ceph, similar to block storage. Ceph is designed for redundancy and ensures that the loss of a single hard disk, a server or even an entire rack in the data centre does not affect data integrity or availability during normal operation. The guaranteed monthly availability of the centron Object Storage is 99.9 per cent.

Ceph is self-healing in the event of individual component failures, ensuring continuous service with data protection remaining unaffected. In addition, centron utilises sophisticated monitoring systems based on tools such as Icinga, Prometheus and its own open-source tool, ceph_exporter. These help to respond immediately to problems with the Ceph infrastructure and ensure high availability in line with the guaranteed 99.9 per cent uptime.

Ceph is also compatible with a large part of the S3 RESTful API, which allows you to use many familiar tools and commands.

Note on backups: Data backup and recovery are not features of the centron S3 Object Storage. Redundant storage protects against physical data loss, but is no substitute for a backup to protect against logical data loss (e.g. accidental deletion or overwriting). It is your responsibility to back up your data.
