Quick Start

centron and ccloud³ VMs are virtual machines (VMs) that run on virtualised hardware. Every ccloud³ VM you create is a new server that you can use either on its own or as part of a larger, cloud-based infrastructure.

Prerequisites​

Creating ccloud³ VMs with Premium Full Managing​

  1. From the Create menu in the top right-hand corner of the Control Panel, click on ccloud³ VMs.

  2. Select an image, which can be a Linux distribution or a Windows distribution.

  3. Select a pool and a size for your ccloud³ VM, which determines its RAM, storage and vCPUs, as well as the price. Find out more about how to choose the right ccloud³ VM plan. The ccloud³ VM ordering process offers a range of options that you can customise now or after creation. To accept the default settings, scroll down and click ‘Create’. Otherwise:

  4. Optionally, add Disks.

  5. Select a VPC network for the ccloud³ VM.

  6. Select an SSH key, if you have added one, or create a root password for the ccloud³ VM.

  7. Select the Premium Full Managing add-on.

  8. Enter a name and click Create.

Connecting to ccloud³ VMs​

To connect via a terminal on Linux, macOS or the Windows Subsystem for Linux:

  1. Open your terminal and enter the command “ssh username@203.0.113.0”.
  2. Replace the part after the @ with the IP address of your ccloud³ VM. On most distributions, the username is root.
  3. Press ENTER and reply “Yes” when prompted to confirm the connection.
  4. If you are not using SSH keys, enter your password when prompted.

Alternatively, Windows users can connect using PuTTY.

Once you have logged in, your command prompt will change and you will see a welcome screen.

Deleting ccloud³ VMs​

Deleting a ccloud³ VM permanently and irrevocably deletes the VM, its contents, automatic backups and all associated resources that you have selected for deletion.

  1. In the ccenter, click the More menu for the ccloud³ VM and select Destroy.
  2. (Optional) On the Destroy page for the ccloud³ VM, under ‘Destroy ccloud³ VM and backups’, click ‘View associated resources’ and select all resources associated with the ccloud³ VM that you also wish to destroy.
  3. Click ‘Destroy this ccloud³ VM and backups’ (or ‘Destroy this ccloud³ VM and X selected resources’ if you are also destroying resources associated with the ccloud³ VM).
  4. Confirm the deletion in the confirmation window that opens by clicking ‘Confirm’ (or ‘Delete’ if you are also deleting resources associated with the ccloud³ VM). If you are also destroying associated resources, you will be prompted to enter the name of the ccloud³ VM in the confirmation window before destroying the ccloud³ VM.
