Troubleshooting OpenVPN
In this article, you’ll learn how to view log files, check your client’s version and export VPN configuration files. At the end, you’ll find a short list of the most common errors.
Client Operation
Here we show you how to view the log files, check the version and export your configuration.
Viewing log files

As soon as you start the programme, you will see the client log in the background of the login window.

Simply copy this into the email to our technicians.
Check the client version
- Right-click on the OpenVPN client icon in the taskbar. Select ‘Settings…’. A new window will open; select the ‘About’ tab.
VPN configuration files

Right-click on the OpenVPN client icon in the taskbar. Select ‘Settings…’. A new window will open; select the ‘Advanced’ tab.

Now copy the path to the configuration file and paste it into Windows Explorer. You will now see the folder containing the file.
Common problems
Incorrect username or password

It often happens that the VPN connection cannot be established because an incorrect password or username has been entered. Check the log; if you see the following error message, the password or username is incorrect.
