Create a VM from a custom image
Creating ccloud³ VMs from custom images via the Control Panel
Once you have uploaded a custom image to your account, there are two ways to create ccloud³ VMs from that image:
- Via the VM creation screen
Whilst creating the ccloud³ VM, you can open the ‘Custom images’ tab in the ‘Select an image’ section of the VM creation screen and select the desired custom image. - Via the “More” menu of the custom image
On the “Images” page, in the custom images tab, open the “More” menu for the custom image from which you wish to create a ccloud³ VM. Click “Launch a ccloud³ VM” here. This will take you to the VM creation screen with your pre-selected custom image.
Regardless of the method you choose, select your options on the VM creation page and then click “Create ccloud³ VM”. You can only create ccloud³ VMs in the same region as your custom image, but you can add custom images to other regions.
Once your ccloud³ VM has been created, you can connect to it via SSH.
Note: If you are prompted to enter a root password and you do not have one, check that the version of cloud-init on your image is at least 0.7.7. You can also try adding your SSH key to the image before uploading it.
