Limits

  • Custom images must be smaller than 100 GB if they are uncompressed.
  • ISO images are not currently supported. centron is considering adding support for ISO in the future. In the meantime, you can create a new image using your preferred VM software and save it again in a supported format. For detailed instructions, see ‘How to create a ccloud³ VM from an Ubuntu ISO image’.
  • Unlike standard images provided by centron, ccloud³ VMs created from custom images use DHCP to obtain an IP address from the centron platform. The network configuration of the custom image requires no additional setup to use DHCP.
  • IPv6 is not supported on ccloud³ VMs created from custom images.
  • Automatic monitoring cannot be enabled when creating a ccloud³ VM from a custom image. Instead, monitoring must be set up manually.
  • You must add an SSH key when creating ccloud³ VMs from a custom image. These VMs have password authentication disabled by default – you cannot use the Control Panel to reset the root password.
  • Importing a custom image via a URL will fail if the image is served from a CDN that does not support HEAD requests. If you encounter problems importing an image via a URL, try downloading the file and uploading it directly.
  • ccloud³ VMs created from a custom image do not receive an anchor IP address and do not require one to use a reserved IP. If you assign a reserved IP address to a ccloud³ VM created from a custom image, the reserved IP is automatically assigned to the VM’s public IPv4 address instead of an anchor IP.

Known issues:​

  • It is not possible to view the total storage used by custom images.
  • The image upload window does not display the image size correctly.
