Why can’t I create a ccloud³ VM from a snapshot?
In certain data centres, you cannot create ccloud³ VMs due to limited capacity. If you have snapshots in a data centre with limited capacity, transfer them to another data centre so that you can create ccloud³ VMs from them there.
Can I reduce the size of a ccloud³ VM using a snapshot?
You cannot reduce the size of a ccloud³ VM from a snapshot. Data is not always stored sequentially in memory, so reducing the size of a hard disk may result in data loss or corruption.
Why does the size of my snapshot differ from the reported disk usage?
Snapshots of ccloud³ VMs are the best possible estimate based on disk usage. Snapshots of volumes operate at the block storage level, so the snapshot size may differ from what the file system reports.
When I try to restore a snapshot, I get an error saying that the resource could not be found.

How do I clone or create a copy of a ccloud³ VM?
Take a snapshot of the ccloud³ VM and then create a new ccloud³ VM from that snapshot. Snapshot transfers to other users are temporarily unavailable for some new accounts. As a temporary workaround, new centron users starting with a team account can transfer snapshots to other users via Teams rather than directly via email.
How can I restore a deleted ccloud³ VM?
You can restore your ccloud³ VM if you have previously created a snapshot of the ccloud³ VM manually or have signed up for automated backups.
Do snapshots retain the IP address of the ccloud³ VM from which they were created?
No, snapshots do not retain the IP address of the ccloud³ VM from which they were created. However, you can use reserved IP addresses to assign the same address to new or newly provisioned ccloud³ VMs.
How can I delete my ccloud³ VMs whilst retaining my backups?
If you delete a ccloud³ VM, the associated backups will also be deleted. You should therefore back up your backups first before deleting the ccloud³ VM.
Can I download a backup or a snapshot?
At present, you cannot download centron backups or snapshots directly. However, you can use third-party tools to save your data locally.
How do I manually back up my ccloud³ VM?
You can manually back up a ccloud³ VM using centron snapshots or backups. Alternatively, you can use a third-party tool such as rsync or SFTP.
How do I transfer a ccloud³ VM to another user?
You cannot transfer snapshots of ccloud³ VMs to other users.
How long does it take for my backup or snapshot to complete?
Creating a backup or snapshot takes approximately 2 minutes per GB of storage space used.
