This glossary explains the fundamental concepts behind cBacks. Our aim is to provide a better understanding of how cBacks works and what certain terms in the documentation mean.
Crash-Consistent Backup
A crash-consistent backup is a disk image that captures the state of a hard disk exactly as it was at a specific point in time. This means that the backup contains data that was present up to the time the cBacks was created. However, it does not guarantee that the data is in a consistent state if the applications were not closed properly at the time the cBacks was created.
Disk Image
Disk images are software copies of physical hard drives. They store the data from a physical hard drive (e.g. a hard disk or SSD) in one or more files. These images can be used to fully reconstruct a hard drive – including the operating system, applications and stored data.
